Rockland County, NY business owners celebrate Pearl River High School’s Sara McGrath cancer survivor

Myself, Stefanie Murphy of Stefanie Murphy Media and Denise of Denise’s Masterpieces really love giving back. It simply fulfills us, personally and creatively. We often have these crazy ideas to give back to those who touch our hearts and then even crazier things happen when we approach them. We both work closely with other local vendors who are ready to ban together and create these amazing experiences at a moment’s notice. I mean really – we pulled this together in 3 days notice plus a snowstorm reschedule.

Pearl River High School senior Sara McGrath is currently in remission after battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma. While her mission is to now give back to those who are battling what she has overcome, local business owners came together to celebrate and display her strength with a photoshoot complete with makeup, hair styling, custom floral accents and a gorgeous gown.
This past summer of 2016 as Sara was going into her senior year of high school, she was diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Throughout the entire battle she stayed positive and remains an inspiration to our community. As a survivor, her mission is to give back to those who are battling what she has overcome.

Last week, while searching the local Facebook community boards, Rockland County, NY photographer Stefanie Murphy Media saw a post regarding mascara sales to benefit the senior. Each year, passionate candidates engage in an exciting competition to raise the most money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Each dollar donated counts as a vote. Sara helps to raise money in honor of young patients currently battling or in remission from a blood cancer. Sara has raised an impressive $30,000 this year.
Stefanie immediately reached out to local makeup artist and partner in giving, Denise’s Masterpieces to offer Sara a complimentary photo session with everything she’ll need to prepare, including a professional makeup application by Denise. Shortly after, the list of local business owner’s who came on board to put together this shoot has grown.
Beth of Color With Style brainstormed on hair styling, Heather & Birch Floral Design created a custom flower crown incorporating Sara’s favorite color, navy blue. Additionally, Springhouse, a local fine attire store scheduled a fitting for Sara to choose a gown for her session fit for this celebration. Not only were owners Tara Coughlin and Mary Zugibe willing to remain open after hours for Sara’s fitting they packed up her dress for her TO KEEP! Our community is so wonderful and I am so lucky to consider myself a local business owner here.

While there are so many reasons I am doing this, overall I cannot find a way to put the level of inspiration this young woman has over me into words. By gifting this photoshoot and entire experience, I am expressing how this makes me feel in the way I know best, imagery. I am so moved by how positive Sara has remained throughout this entire experience. She reminds me a lot of myself, in her passion for advocacy. Denise and I work very closely and share the same admiration for amazing members of our community and gain so much fulfillment from giving back.
Smile,
